Dog Obedience House Training
House training is a very important phase in a dog’s life. Training your dog not to mess in the house can create a tight bond between you and your new pet. The best time to house train your new dog is when they are very young. Therefore, the sooner that you start with dog obedience house training, the better.
Listed below are just a few points on how to house train your dog.
Let him have his own space.
It is best not to let your dog wander around your house or its own without any supervision. You may not know it but your pet might already be chewing on things and worse, may get themselves injured or electrocuted. It is best to keep him in a place where he can be seen easily if you are at home. If there will be a time that he will be left alone, better place him in his den or crate. Put a bed of his own that can be made out of a box or towel, some toys, his water and food. At this young age dogs need exercise and one of the ways is to play with him as much as possible.
Introduce him to new areas.
After you have taught him how to behave in his own place, it is now time to introduce him to the other areas of your home. Be sure to spend time with him in that area. It is best to train your dog to eat in one area, but if you’ll most let them eat elsewhere make sure you do it under supervision. You should show your pet all the rooms in your house but make sure they know what not to do it in these new areas. Do this by leashing him so as to control his reactions. Unleash him when you think he already has gotten himself familiar with the new areas. But, remember to keep watch or else he might get into trouble and cause further damages.
Potty train him.
Potty training can be difficult, you will need to let your dog know what areas he is allowed to use when going to the toilet. It is best to keep this to one area so as not to confuse your dog. Never allow him to play in that area or he might get the idea that he can use the same place for all his activities.
Let him understand the “No Chew” command.
Dogs are very destructive when they are young, they like to strengthen their teeth and gums by chewing on your furniture. It is also kind of a healthy exercise for their jaws. Part of your dog obedience house training is providing him with toys that he may chew on and let him understand that not all things can be used to strengthen his teeth and gums. If you see him chewing on something that he shouldn’t be, make sure you give him the correct command to stop chewing. Whenever he has done something right don’t forget to praise him.
Set off limits areas.
One of the most dangerous areas for your pet are where they are electrical appliances, you could easily chew through an electric cable and electrocute himself. Whenever your dog follows your “off” command give him a pat and praise him.
By and large, dog obedience house training will benefit you in the future. So, start early!
